New Railway Project Offers Israel’s Trade Partners Alternative to Suez Canal

by Touchpoint Israel

The “Red-Med” project would link Israel’s Red Sea city Eilat with the Mediterranean port of Ashdod. Since the beginning of Egypt’s revolution in 2011, the unstable political situation in Egypt has put the security of the Suez Canal at constant risk. Israel’s new railway line, scheduled to be completed in five years, would provide an alternative route for countries looking to move their goods from Africa or Asia into Europe. This move is especially good news for China, who is Israel’s second largest trade partner after the United States of America. More information about the project can be found here.
