In Israel’s southern Negev desert is a huge crater called Makhtesh Ramon. Similar in many ways to the Grand Canyon, Makhtesh Ramon is over 24 miles long and 5 miles wide with cliffs between 900-1500 feet tall. The crater is a popular location for desert activities such as rappelling, jeep tours, camping, and hiking.
Makhtesh Ramon is one of Israel’s many nature reserves. Visitors will see unique geological phenomena and wildlife that do not exist anywhere else in Israel. Learn more about the crater here.
