Marc Chagall

by Mackenzie Landi

Widely considered the quintessential Jewish artist of the 20th century, Chagall created works in a wide range of artistic formats, most notably stained glass, paintings, book illustrations, and stage sets. A lover of Israel since he first visited the Holy Land for two months in 1931, Chagall visited Israel eight times throughout his life. His most significant gifts to the State of Israel are the stained glass windows at the Hebrew University Medical School’s synagogue and design of the Knesset building.
